Antiguan calypso legend Sir Dr McLean “King Short Shirt” Emanuel is home recovering after being discharged from hospital.
The cultural icon shared the health update in a statement on January 4, giving thanks to God for “His mercy and healing”.
Emanuel said he was overwhelmed by the outpouring of love and support he received from across the region and from fellow Antiguans and Barbudans, including the governor general and the prime minister.
“I extend sincere thanks to the people of Antigua and Barbuda and to our Caribbean brothers and sisters, especially those in St Kitts, Montserrat, the US Virgin Islands, Trinidad, and St Lucia. Your prayers, messages, and words of encouragement meant more to me and my family than words can fully express,” he said.
He also expressed gratitude to Dr Belle and the medical staff at Sir Lester Bird Medical Centre.
“I would also like to express my heartfelt gratitude to Dr Belle and the other doctors, nurses, and medical staff at Sir Lester Bird Medical Centre who cared for me during my hospitalisation. Your professionalism, dedication, and compassion did not go unnoticed, and I thank you sincerely for the care you provided,” Emanuel said.
He said he is now looking forward to resting and recuperating.
