Jamaica and Trinidad and Tobago have made history after qualifying multiple bobsleigh teams for the 2026 Winter Olympic Games in Milan–Cortina, Italy.
Trinidad and Tobago secured qualification in both the two-man and four-man bobsleigh events, marking a major milestone for the country. The team of Axel Brown, Shakeel John, De Aundre John, Xaverri Williams and Micah Moore, coached by former Olympian Lee Johnston, finished the qualification period ranked among the top 17 nations globally to earn their Olympic berth.
It will be the second consecutive Winter Olympics featuring a Trinidad and Tobago bobsleigh team and the first time the country has qualified two teams for the Games.
Following confirmation of qualification, Brown celebrated the achievement on social media.
“It’s now official, we’re going to the Olympics! There are too many people to thank, so those will come in the following weeks. For now, we can enjoy the fact we just did something historic. A first ever for T&T, qualifying in the 4-man. We’re all incredibly proud of what we’ve done, and excited for what awaits us in Italy!” he wrote in an Instagram post.
Jamaica also enjoyed a strong showing, qualifying three bobsleigh teams for Milan–Cortina. Micah Moore earned qualification in the monobob event, while Shane Pitter, along with Nimroy Turgott, Joel Fearon and Junior Harris, secured a place in the two-man bobsleigh. Jamaica also qualified a four-man team with Andrae Dacres included in the lineup.
The island could yet add a fourth team, as its two-woman bobsleigh crew is currently ranked as the first alternate, pending any withdrawal by another nation.
In a social media post, the Jamaica Bobsleigh and Skeleton Federation hailed the achievement.
“This achievement reflects sustained excellence, commitment, and international competitiveness on the world stage,” the federation said.
It added that the qualification was based on season-long International Bobsleigh and Skeleton Federation rankings and confirmed Jamaica as one of the most consistent tropical nations in winter sport.
