Chief Secretary of the Tobago House of Assembly (THA) Farley Augustine made it clear that there should be no stumbling block in the way of Secretaries and Assistant Secretaries in the exercising of their lawful functions.

The Chief Secretary stated this as Secretaries and Assistant Secretaries of the Tobago House of Assembly were administered the Oath of Office during a ceremony at the Magdalena Grand Beach and Golf Resort on Monday.

Chief Secretary Farley says he expects all lawful instruction to be carried out with a measure of urgency, discipline and professionalism.

He notes the island of Tobago is steeped in tradition, and loves to celebrate tradition. Farley says while tradition works well for the Heritage Festival, traditions do not work well in governance.

I don’t intend to keep for any doctrine the traditions or commandments of any man or woman or public officer. I don’t care what the tradition has been. I only care what the law says.

And the position is, if we have to change a tradition to get efficiency, I don’t want to hear this is how we have always done it
