Kenneth Salick

Trinidadian chutney soca artiste Kenneth Salick has revealed that he is battling kidney failure.

Salick, known for hits including “Radica” and “She Want Ah 4×4 Van”, shared the news in a Facebook post on February 18 after fans questioned his absence from the chutney soca scene during Carnival 2026.

The 2009 Chutney Soca Monarch said he felt supporters deserved an explanation.

He wrote: “To all my loyal fans friends and family..I did not pack meh bag because I wanted too. I packed my bag because I had to..so to everyone who keeps calling and texting me. Why Kenneth why..well I believe you have the right to know the reason why..I will be 64 years this April and I am not well. I am suffering from kidney failure..I am very sick..the main reason is the pain is sometimes unbearable..so I hope deep in my heart you all will understand why I did what I had to do..BUT if the good Lord permits me, I will love to sing for you guys again, it hurts me really bad. But I have no choice.. don’t ever forget Kenneth Salick love you and misses you all..stay safe..BLESSINGS ALWAYS. ALL YUH LEAVE MEH NAA.”

The announcement comes weeks after tragedy struck the singer’s family. His son, Nigel Salick, was found dead on January 2.

Salick’s message prompted an outpouring of support from fans and members of the chutney soca fraternity, many offering prayers and well wishes for his recovery.
