Barbados Prime Minister Mia Mottley met with Suriname President Jennifer Geerlings-Simons yesterday, following their participation in the 50th Regular Meeting of the Conference of Heads of Government of the Caribbean Community in St Kitts and Nevis.
In a post on social media, Mottley said the discussions, which took place at the prime minister’s official residence at Ilaro Court, were focused and practical, centred on advancing regional industrialisation, strengthening energy sustainability, expanding cooperative agricultural capacity and deepening cultural exchange.
The leaders also addressed shared priorities in food and water security and explored opportunities to improve airlift between Barbados and Suriname.
Mottley said stronger regional ties must be supported by improved connectivity and reiterated the need for CARICOM to move from dialogue to coordinated implementation.
“CARICOM must continue to move from conversation to coordinated action,” she said.
