As concerns remain globally regarding the supply of fuel due to ongoing conflict in the Middle East, Anguilla’s government is urging islanders not to panic buy or bulk purchase fuel.
The government said the UK overseas territory’s supply will be topped up today when a shipment arrives.
It added that a system is in place to ensure service stations receive adequate supply.
“The public is therefore strongly encouraged to remain calm and continue normal purchase practices. Panic buying places unnecessary strain on the system and can create avoidable disruptions,” the government said in a statement.
Since the start of the US-Israeli war against Iran’s government and its proxies in Lebanon, which resulted in the closure of the Strait of Hormuz and impacted global supply, the Anguillan government has implemented several measures to ensure the price of fuel remains affordable and the cost of living remains stable.
Among them is the removal of duty and customs fees for three months on gasoline and diesel, as well as limiting the fuel surcharge on electricity.
