ST JOHN’S, Antigua and Barbuda — The Antigua and Barbuda Government is considering a bid to host the 2027 Caribbean Premier League (CPL) Finals following the Antigua and Barbuda Falcons’ historic championship victory.

The possibility was discussed by Cabinet after the Falcons defeated the Jamaica Kingsmen by eight wickets at Kensington Oval in Barbados on Sunday to claim their first CPL title in only their third season.

Cabinet said the proposal is being seriously considered and will be examined further, including the requirements for hosting the final phase of one of the Caribbean’s premier sporting events.

Antigua and Barbuda hosted four Falcons home matches during the 2026 tournament at the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium.

The Government said hosting the 2027 Finals could generate economic activity through increased visitor arrivals, accommodation, transportation, entertainment and other tourism-related services, while showcasing the country’s cricketing heritage.

The economic impact of CPL cricket has previously been demonstrated in Antigua and Barbuda. An independent assessment of the tournament’s return to the country in 2024 estimated an economic impact of approximately US$14 million, including spending associated with the event and international media exposure for the destination.

Cabinet emphasised that no final decision has been made on whether to submit a bid.

The discussion came as Cabinet congratulated the Falcons on their championship victory, praising the players, coaching staff, management and others associated with the franchise for their discipline, determination and team spirit.

The Falcons chased 171 for victory in Sunday’s final, reaching their target with 20 balls remaining.

Cabinet also highlighted the contribution of Antiguan and Barbudan players and members of the team’s coaching and support structure, as well as the support from fans throughout the tournament.

Special mention was given to legendary West Indies fast bowler Sir Curtly Ambrose, who is part of the Falcons’ coaching staff. Cabinet noted his comments that the team’s success was built on unity, hard work and belief.
