Terrance Drew National Address October 13

St Kitts and Nevis Prime Minister Dr Terrance Drew has been medically cleared to resume his full duties after suffering a stroke in late August.

Drew said he received the update today following a visit to his medical team in Miami, Florida.

“Let me confirm that I have completed my rehabilitation, both inpatient and outpatient, and I am doing well. I also want to confirm that I visited the doctors again today, and I was given an excellent bill of health. And I was told that I am fit to return to full duty,” he said.

Following the medical clearance, Drew plans to travel to Washington, DC, on October 15 to attend a US-Caribbean meeting.

“This meeting presents a valuable opportunity to engage directly with senior United States officials on matters that are important to our Federation, including energy security, economic investment, national security, health care, and opportunities for all of our people. I consider my personal participation especially important,” he said.

“We have already laid the groundwork for several meaningful partnerships, and I want to ensure continuity in those discussions, strengthen the relationships we have built, and advance commitments that can bring real benefits to our country. As Prime Minister, it is my responsibility, along with the Federal Cabinet, to ensure that St Kitts and Nevis has a strong voice wherever important decisions affecting our future are being discussed, and I intend to continue doing just that.”

Drew said he would return to St Kitts and Nevis “in short order” after the meeting to resume his duties.

The prime minister said he remained grateful to his medical teams in St Kitts and Nevis, Martinique and Miami for their care, as well as to islanders who had prayed for his recovery.

He also thanked members of the government who stepped up to ensure the country’s governance continued without disruption during his recovery.
