Two German tourists were arrested at the Dominican Republic in connection a drug trafficking investigation. 

The National Directorate of Drug Control (DNCD) of the Dominican Republic reported Kevin Maure and Jeremy Schmidt were arrested at the Punta Cana International Airport on December 22, 2025 as they allegedly attempted to leave the Spanish speaking island.

DNCD said their arrests came after a multi-agency investigation into the discovery of 17 packages of cocaine on another German national travelling to Frankfurt from the Las Americas International Airport in Santo Domingo on December 15.

DNCD said they suspected more people could have been allegedly nvolved in the trafficking scheme and they later received intelligence which confirmed their suspicions. 

The agency said further investigations are  underway to trafficking network, which they said is dedicated to the recruitment of Dominicans and foreigners, to be used as drug trafficking mules carry narcotics to the United States and Europe.
