Former US President Joe Biden has continued his tradition of starting the New Year on the US Virgin Islands.

Biden was seen attending Mass at the Holy Cross Catholic Church in downtown Christiansted, St Croix, on December 28.

According to The Virgin Islands Consortium, Biden and his family have welcomed the New Year on St Croix since 2015, during his tenure as vice-president under President Barack Obama.

The tradition was briefly interrupted during the COVID-19 pandemic but resumed in 2022, when the White House announced that Biden and First Lady Jill Biden would return to the US overseas territory to ring in the New Year.

The Bidens’ visits to St Croix have often drawn public interest, with residents and visitors alike experiencing a heightened security presence during his stay.
