Arrest

Police in Bimini have taken a 67-year-old American man into custody after he was found with ammunition at a cruise ship security checkpoint in Alice Town on January 5.

The Royal Bahamas Police Force reported the man was stopped by security at the cruise port during screening as he attempted to board a cruise ship.

When officers arrived shortly just after 3 pm they seized a firearm magazine and a quantity of ammunition and the man was detained.

Police said further investigations revealed that the mad holds a concealed weapons permit issued in the US state of Florida, which is valid until 2029.

However, authorities noted that the permit does not apply under Bahamian law.

The man has since been charged with Possession of Ammunition and Possession of an Unlicensed Firearm Component Part.

He was scheduled to appear before the Magistrate’s Court in Grand Bahama on January 6.
