Guyanese telecoms operator One Communications on Wednesday announced the appointment of Abraham Smith as its new chief executive officer.

Smith, who is from the US is not stranger to the region as he previously served as CEO of Digicel Trinidad and Tobago for six year, up to his resignation from the post in February 2025.

Smith brings more than two decades of senior leadership experience across the Caribbean and Latin America, One Caribbean noted.

Brad Martin, chairman of One Communications, said Smith’s appointment comes at a critical time as Guyana experiences rapid economic growth and increasing demand for reliable telecommunications infrastructure.

“As Guyana continues one of the most dynamic periods of growth in its history, the role of reliable, future-ready connectivity has never been more critical,” Martin said. “Abraham is a seasoned leader who understands the national responsibility that comes with telecommunications leadership.”

Martin added that Smith brings a strong understanding of local culture and a commitment to balancing commercial performance with community impact.

As chief executive, Smith will oversee One Communications’ residential operations as well as Brava, the company’s business-focused arm.

The company said his mandate includes improving customer experience across both residential and commercial services, strengthening network resilience and expanding enterprise partnerships.
