US Virgin Islands Police (VIPD) are probing the death of a man after his body was found at a junkyard in Estate Cottage, St Croix.

VIPD said it was contacted by concerned citizen shortly after 8:19 am on January 13 to report a man lying unresponsive at the location in Christiansted.

Fire and Emergency Medical Services were dispatched to the scene and, upon arrival, pronounced the male dead. 

Detectives from the Criminal Investigation Bureau (CIB) also responded and observed that the body had an apparent injury to the head.

Police said investigations are ongoing as detectives work to determine the circumstances surrounding the death. 

At this time, the identity of the deceased has not been confirmed, as authorities are still awaiting next of kin to come forward to provide positive identification.
