A 47-year-old man has been charged in connection with a 2023 traffic accident that led to the death of cyclist Daniel McFarlane in the Cayman Islands.

The Royal Cayman Islands Police Force (RCIPF) said the man faces multiple charges, including causing death by dangerous driving, causing death by careless driving, causing death while driving while disqualified, causing death while driving without insurance, causing grievous bodily harm, and conspiracy to defeat justice.

Police said the man, whose name was not released, appeared in court on January 19, 2026, and was granted bail pending a further court appearance.

Background

According to police, officers were called to the scene of a collision on Frank Sound Road at around 9:30 pm on March 29, 2023.

When officers arrived, they found McFarlane, who was 23 at the time, dead at the scene. A second cyclist was also injured.

Police said the driver of a white Chevrolet Blazer involved in the crash allegedly fled the scene.

The driver, a resident of North Side, was later arrested on suspicion of leaving the scene of an accident and causing death by careless driving.
