Prime Minister of Saint Kitts and Nevis and current Chair of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM), Terrance Drew, will travel to The Bahamas, Jamaica, Guyana and Suriname in the coming days to continue high-level consultations with regional governments ahead of the 50th Regular Meeting of the Conference of Heads of Government of CARICOM.

Speaking during a recent roundtable engagement with members of the local media, Drew underscored the importance of face-to-face dialogue at a time of heightened geopolitical complexity.

“This is not time for a Zoom meeting. This is serious business. This is the time for leaders to sit in a room, close the door, and have frank, eyeball-to-eyeball, face-to-face discussions ahead of the 50th Regular Meeting so that we can put CARICOM on the best footing possible,” he said.

Drew clarified that his role as Chair is not to dictate policy but to coordinate and build consensus among regional leaders.

“I am not the Prime Minister of CARICOM, nor the President of CARICOM. I am Chair at this time to seek to coordinate and bring consensus among the Heads that form CARICOM,” he stated.

According to the prime minister, the consultations form part of a deliberate and proactive strategy to ensure alignment on key regional issues before leaders convene in St Kitts from February 24–27, 2026.

Among the matters expected to be discussed are regional security, geopolitical tensions, economic resilience, climate adaptation and strengthening the Caribbean’s collective voice on the global stage.
