Grenada is shaping up to field a strong team for the CARIFTA Games in 2026, which the country is set to host from April 4–6.
So far, approximately 11 athletes have met the qualifying standards following impressive performances at the Ariza National Championships.
Several athletes surpassed the required marks, signalling a promising showing for the host nation at the region’s premier junior athletics competition.
Kazim Telesford qualified for both the Under-17 discus and shot put events.
He threw the discus 53.38 metres, well above the qualifying standard of 44.00m, while his shot put mark of 15.80m also cleared the required 15.50m.
Tabita Francis qualified in the U-17 shot put, recording a throw of 12.01m, just above the 12.00m standard.
In the U-17 javelin, Deshawn Smart threw 65.07m, comfortably exceeding the qualifying mark of 58.00m.
Grenada secured two representatives in the 400 metres through strong performances from Darrel Daniel and Keelorn Moses. Daniel clocked 47.74 seconds while Moses finished just behind in 47.77 seconds, both beating the entry standard of 47.80 seconds.
In the U-20 100 metres, Kneon Stanislaus secured qualification with a time of 10.58 seconds, beating the standard of 10.60 seconds.
Christophe Calliste also booked his place in the U-20 triple jump, clearing the 14.80m qualifying standard with an impressive leap of 15.61m.
Additional athletes meeting the CARIFTA standards include Annalisa Brown, who ran 2:17 in the Girls U-17 800 metres, beating the qualifying mark of 2:20.
Tevaughn Hall qualified in the Boys U-17 400m hurdles with a time of 55.78 seconds, while Anthony Phillip also met the standard in the same event with 55.97 seconds. The qualifying time for the event is 56.00 seconds.
Meanwhile, Jovani Green secured qualification in the Boys U-17 200 metres, clocking 21.88 seconds, comfortably inside the required 22.00 seconds.
