A female visitor was among two people shot during an early morning incident on Welfare Road in Sint Maarten.
According to the Police Force of Sint Maarten (KPSM), the shooting occurred shortly after 4am on April 21, in the vicinity of a well-known 24-hour restaurant.
Officers and emergency personnel responded to multiple reports of gunfire and found the female victim suffering from a gunshot wound to her lower extremities.
She was treated at the scene before being transported to the Sint Maarten Medical Center for further care.
While responding to the incident, police spotted a vehicle believed to be linked to the shooting.
A pursuit was launched, but the vehicle managed to evade officers, crossing into the French side of the island through the Belle Vue area.
Authorities say efforts are ongoing to identify and locate both the vehicle and its occupants.
Later that morning, a second victim arrived at the Sint Maarten Medical Center seeking treatment for a gunshot wound to the lower body.
His condition is still being assessed.
Detectives are now working to piece together what led to the shooting, with investigators gathering digital evidence and other information as part of the probe.
Police are urging anyone who may have witnessed the incident or who has information that could assist with the investigation to come forward.
