The Scenic Eclipse has made its inaugural visit to Bonaire on April 21, marking a milestone for the island’s cruise sector.
The vessel, carrying 179 passengers and 196 crew members under the command of Captain Erwan Le Rouzic, was welcomed by Tourism Corporation Bonaire (TCB), along with the Harbour Master and local agent Maduro, with a ceremonial reception to mark the occasion.
Known as the world’s first discovery yacht, the Scenic Eclipse represents a growing segment of ultra-luxury, expedition-style cruising.
The vessel is designed to carry up to 228 guests in all-veranda suites with butler service, offering a highly personalised travel experience.
It is also equipped with features that allow access to more remote destinations, including two helicopters, a submarine and expedition equipment such as Zodiacs, giving passengers the opportunity to explore locations in a more immersive way.
The arrival of the vessel aligns with Bonaire’s strategy of attracting high-value, low-impact visitors who are interested in nature-based and meaningful travel experiences.
Tourism officials say the visit also reflects the island’s increasing appeal within the luxury and expedition cruise market, further strengthening its position as a destination known for its natural beauty and authenticity.
