A Trinidad and Tobago national convicted of multiple child sex offences has been arrested by US Border Patrol agents in Florida.

The arrest of 60-year-old Troy Antonio Baldeo on April 17 represents the 1,000th apprehension by the Tampa Station of the US Border Patrol for the current fiscal year.

Officials said Baldeo, a registered sex offender most recently living in Tampa, was detained in coordination with the Florida Department of Probation and Parole.

Authorities noted that Baldeo had previously attempted to evade prosecution on child sex charges but was intercepted by US Customs and Border Protection officers on December 7, 2015, at John F. Kennedy International Airport while trying to board a flight to Trinidad and Tobago.

He was extradited to Hillsborough County, Florida, where he was convicted on July 26, 2016, on five felony child sex offences.

After serving his sentence, Baldeo was released from prison in December 2025 and later relocated from Baltimore, Maryland, to Florida, where he was apprehended.

Authorities said he had overstayed his nonimmigrant visa in March 2016 and is unlawfully present in the United States.

Following his arrest, Baldeo was processed as a criminal undocumented immigrant and handed over to US Immigration and Customs Enforcement for removal proceedings.

Acting Chief Patrol Agent Samuel B Briggs II of the Miami Sector said the arrest reflects ongoing efforts to target individuals with serious criminal histories.

“I am grateful for the vigilant work of our Border Patrol agents in enforcing our nation’s immigration laws, and for the partnerships we have with federal, state, and local law enforcement agencies in tackling the threats posed by criminal illegal aliens,” he said.
