The Dutch Caribbean Coast Guard has launched a search operation for a kite surfer reported missing while travelling from Venezuela to Bonaire.
According to the Coast Guard, its Maritime Operations Center received reports on Wednesday, May 20, about a possible missing kite surfer who had departed Venezuela bound for Bonaire.
Coast Guard units were immediately deployed, with a Dash 8 patrol aircraft carrying out aerial searches into Wednesday night.
The operation resumed on Thursday morning with several units, including a Coast Guard helicopter, as teams searched both offshore and along Bonaire’s coastline alongside local security services.
Despite the ongoing efforts, authorities said nothing had been found during the search.
The Coast Guard said any new information or developments would be shared with the public.
