Cayman Airways Boeing 737-8 Max

Cayman Airways will temporarily suspend its service between Grand Cayman and Havana, Cuba, citing declining passenger demand and challenges affecting the route’s financial sustainability.

The airline said the suspension will take effect on June 26, 2026, following a review of passenger numbers, cargo volumes, revenue performance and future bookings.

According to Cayman Airways, demand on the route has declined significantly over several years, with passenger traffic and revenue no longer sufficient to cover the direct costs of operating the flights. Cargo activity has also remained limited and has not provided enough support to the route’s performance.

The airline said forward bookings suggest demand is expected to remain below sustainable levels in the near term, leading to the decision to pause the service.

“This was a difficult decision, but it is a necessary step to ensure the responsible management of the airline’s resources and long-term sustainability,” said Cayman Airways President and CEO Fabian Whorms.

Whorms said the airline understands the importance of the route to customers and will continue monitoring market conditions with the possibility of restoring the service if operations become sustainable again.

Passengers with reservations on affected flights will be contacted by Cayman Airways and offered a full refund, travel credit, or the option to travel to Havana via Panama City through the airline’s interline partnership with Copa Airlines.

Cayman Airways said it remains committed to maintaining its wider network and providing air service across the region.
