Haiti’s hopes of advancing out of Group C at the 2026 FIFA World Cup were dashed last evening after a 3-0 defeat to five-time champions Brazil.

The result ended the Caribbean side’s chances of reaching the knockout stage in their first World Cup appearance since 1974, while Brazil moved to the top of the group on goal difference ahead of Morocco.

Haiti managed to hold Brazil scoreless for more than 20 minutes, but once the South American giants found their rhythm, they took control of the match at the Philadelphia Stadium.

Vinícius Júnior opened the scoring after his powerful effort was spilled by Haiti goalkeeper Johnny Placide, allowing Matheus Cunha to react quickest and finish from close range.

The pair combined again 13 minutes later, with Vinícius winning possession in midfield before sending Cunha through on goal. The Manchester United forward made no mistake, firing into the top corner to give Brazil a 2-0 lead.

Brazil added a third just before halftime when Vinícius turned scorer, controlling a pass from Lucas Paquetá before calmly sliding the ball past an advancing Placide.

With the advantage secured, Brazil managed the second half while continuing to create opportunities. Substitute Gabriel Martinelli came close to adding another goal but saw his effort hit the crossbar, while Endrick also found the net before the goal was ruled out for offside.

Haiti continued to fight for their first goal of the tournament but struggled to break down Brazil’s defence and could not find a way past goalkeeper Alisson.

The result means Haiti will finish their historic World Cup campaign with their final Group C match against Morocco on June 24, while Brazil will face Scotland on the same day in Miami.
