Antigua and Barbuda’s Zalaan Jan booked his place in the round of 16 of the men’s 80kg boxing competition at the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games after defeating Malawi’s Happy Ngwira by referee stoppage in the round of 32 earlier today.
For the other Caribbean boxer in the weight division, things were not so fortunate.
Trinidad and Tobago’s Jeremiah Thomas was eliminated in the round of 32 after suffering a unanimous 5-0 points defeat to Josh Tonga of Tonga, the 2024 World Youth Championships bronze medallist.
Meanwhile, his compatriot Anthony Joseph is set to begin his Commonwealth Games competition in the men’s 60kg division later today when he takes on Tryagain Morning Ndevelo of Namibia in the round of 32.
