A Tobago jet ski operator is expected to appear before the High Court on July 28 after being charged with the death of seven-year-old Angelica Jogie.

The 33-year-old Canaan resident was charged with manslaughter following legal advice from Director of Public Prosecutions Roger Gaspard, who reviewed the police investigation into Jogie’s death.

She died on April 8 after being struck by a jet ski at Pigeon Point Marine Park.

Jogie was in a designated bathing area with her family when the incident occurred.

Her father and another male relative were also injured.

Police said the suspect was re-arrested on July 27 ahead of his court appearance.

The man’s legal troubles are not over, as Jogie’s parents have initiated civil action against him and the Tobago House of Assembly.

The Trinidad Guardian reported that a pre-action protocol letter has been sent to the Division of Legal Affairs and the jet ski operator.

On July 15, Freedom Law Chambers, representing Arnold Jogie, his wife, Salisha Narine-Jogie, and their daughter, Angelina Jogie, sent the letter alleging that Angelica’s death was caused by negligence and a breach of duty.

The letter claims the THA was aware of the risks posed by jet skis operating near the popular beach and should have taken precautionary measures to protect bathers.

The attorneys gave the parties 28 days to respond and indicate whether liability for the incident would be accepted.

If liability is denied, the Jogies intend to take the matter to the High Court seeking damages.
