PORT OF SPAIN, Trinidad and Tobago — The Energy Chamber of Trinidad and Tobago is welcoming improved relations with Venezuela following a meeting between Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar and Venezuelan President Delcy Rodríguez.
The leaders met at Venezuela’s Permanent Mission to the United Nations in New York during the 81st session of the UN General Assembly and agreed on a joint work agenda covering trade, energy, security, disaster risk management, environmental protection, agriculture, tourism, air connectivity and culture.
The Energy Chamber said the discussions mark a significant step forward for regional cooperation and called for stronger bilateral ties, particularly in the energy sector.
“Our two nations are deeply intertwined, not only geographically, historically, and socially, but also through our shared energy futures,” the chamber said.
It said Venezuela’s substantial natural resources and Trinidad and Tobago’s established energy market and services sector could create opportunities for cooperation.
The chamber noted that Trinidad and Tobago offers a ready market for commodities such as crude oil and natural gas, while its energy services sector has specialised skills and technical expertise that could assist with the restoration and optimisation of Venezuela’s energy infrastructure.
The organisation also welcomed the leaders’ agreement to strengthen cross-border exchange, saying their commitment to friendship, trust and good neighbourliness could create opportunities for development and contribute to peace, stability and prosperity in the Caribbean.
“The Energy Chamber remains optimistic about the possibilities for a robust, mutually beneficial energy future for both countries,” it said.
