Update: The male passenger who was killed in Sunday’s fatal accident in St Thomas, US Virgin Islands has been identified as 19-year-old Jahquan Laronde.

Original story: CHARLOTTE AMALIE, US Virgin Islands — One man is dead and two women are injured following a traffic collision on Bovoni Road, St Thomas, US Virgin Islands early Sunday morning.

The Virgin Islands Police Department said the collision occurred around 3:31 am on Benburin Stephens Drive near Gasworks Gas Station.

Police said the 911 Emergency Call Center received a report from a citizen that a vehicle had overturned in the area.

Responding officers found a white Subaru Forester SUV resting on its left side at the entrance of the gas station, with an unresponsive male inside.

Police said two female occupants had already been taken by ambulance to Roy Lester Schneider Hospital before officers arrived.

A preliminary investigation found that the female driver was travelling along Benburin Stephens Drive when she lost control of the SUV and collided head-on with a brick pillar at the entrance of the gas station.

The impact caused the vehicle to overturn.

The driver sustained moderate injuries, while the female passenger suffered life-threatening injuries and was taken to hospital for treatment.

The male occupant died at the scene from his injuries.

Police have withheld the man’s identity pending notification and identification by his next of kin.

The Traffic Investigation Bureau is continuing its investigation.
