GEORGETOWN, Guyana — The body of six-year-old Orlando Jaikarran, who went missing from Bath, West Coast Berbice, has been recovered, with police saying information provided by his father led investigators to the location.
The child’s body was found at about 1 am on October 20 in waters at Block D, Bath Settlement, Water Street, Sea Dam Canal.
Police discovered the body in a decomposed state.
Region Five Regional Commander Senior Superintendent Lonsdale Whithrite told media at the scene that the boy’s father, Bharrat Jaikarran, provided information that led investigators to the location where the body had been dumped.
The father had initially told investigators he last saw Orlando on October 13, after putting him to bed.
He reported the child missing the following morning and initially assisted with search efforts.
However, security footage from a house in the same area reportedly showed the man leaving his home late on October 13 carrying a child, then returning without the child.
Police arrested the father and confronted him with the footage.
Investigators said he subsequently admitted to dumping Orlando’s body near a canal at the sea dam in Bath Settlement and directed them to the location.
