Davonte Howell has set a new Cayman Islands national record in the 60-metre sprint.

The 20-year-old, who competes for the University of Tennessee, clocked an impressive 6.49 seconds to win the event at the Clemson Invitational in South Carolina.

His teammate, Traunard Folson, also recorded a time of 6.49 seconds, but Howell was awarded the victory after edging him by one thousandth of a second, 6.485 to 6.486.

The University of Tennessee said both performances established new world and NCAA leads for the 2025–26 indoor season, tied for third on the programme’s all-time list and ranked 12th in collegiate history.

T’Mars McCallum rounded out the top three with a time of 6.59 seconds.
