Cricket West Indies (CWI) and former West Indies wicketkeeper-batsman Shane Dowrich have amicably resolved a legal dispute stemming from his early return from the West Indies tour of New Zealand in 2020.

In a joint update, CWI said the matter related to Dowrich’s eligibility for selection and the subsequent non-renewal of his central playing contract.

Following discussions between both parties, the issues have now been settled, bringing the matter to a close.

Both sides confirmed that the resolution was reached amicably, ending what had been an unresolved situation for several years.

Chief Executive Officer of Cricket West Indies, Chris Dehring, said the organisation welcomed the outcome and noted Dowrich’s continued involvement in the sport.

“CWI is pleased that an agreement has been reached and welcomes Shane to be part of its coaching structure as he moves into further professional development, having retired from international cricket in December 2023,” Dehring said.

Dowrich’s attorney, Philip Nicholls, said the former Barbados and West Indies player was relieved to put the matter behind him and was focused on the next chapter of his career.

“Shane is delighted that this uncertain period over the last five years has come to an end and is now looking forward to forging a coaching career and maintaining his involvement in the game he loves, having hung up his gloves in 2023,” Nicholls said.

“He welcomed the opportunity to pass on the knowledge gained during a career that included 35 Test matches to the next generation of cricketers, and wicketkeepers in particular.”

Both parties agreed that the terms of the settlement will remain confidential.

Dowrich represented the West Indies in 35 Test matches before retiring from international cricket in 2023.
