The Cabinet of Antigua and Barbuda has approved a proposal for the establishment of a Cricket West Indies (CWI) campus, aimed at positioning the country as a leading high-performance cricket hub in the Americas.

The proposed development will occupy 20 acres and is expected to function as a fully integrated cricket and sports tourism facility anchored by CWI.

Plans for the campus include a high-performance centre equipped with indoor training nets, analytics, fitness facilities and a sports science and recovery lab, as well as a refurbished international cricket venue to be renamed the 4 Knights Oval.

The project will also feature a West Indies Cricket
Experience Museum with interactive exhibits highlighting the region’s cricket history, along with administrative headquarters for Cricket West Indies and the Caribbean Premier League (CPL).

A remote television production facility is also planned, positioning Antigua and Barbuda as a regional broadcast centre for international cricket.

The campus will further include a full-time cricket academy and high school to support the development of young cricketers across the Caribbean, as well as a cricket-themed hotel and player residence.

Recreational facilities such as padel, pickleball,
basketball and football courts are also part of the development, along with the deployment of Cricket West Indies performance pods across the region to enhance training and data capabilities.

Cabinet noted that the project aligns with global trends in sports tourism and the growing sports economy, and is expected to boost visitor arrivals, create employment and expand entrepreneurial opportunities.

It is also anticipated to strengthen the country’s
international brand, attract foreign investment and generate revenue through broadcasting, events and data-related activities.

The government said the initiative will also support regional cricket development, with the academy providing structured academic and athletic opportunities for young players, particularly those from underserved communities.

The integration of sports medicine, wellness and research facilities is also expected to contribute to advancements in athlete care and
performance.

The project will be implemented in phases, with major components scheduled for completion between 2026 and 2030, subject to funding
and partnership arrangements.

The Cabinet said Prime Minister Gaston Browne described the approval as a “defining moment” for the country.

“This project places Antigua and Barbuda at the centre of global cricket development while unlocking new economic opportunities for our people. It is a bold step toward building a modern, diversified economy rooted in our strengths,” he said.

Cabinet said it will continue working with regional and international partners to ensure the successful execution of the project.
