Guyana’s international cargo sector is set to receive a major boost with the announcement of a new weekly cargo service between Cheddi Jagan International Airport (CJIA) and Miami. 

Minister of Public Utilities and Aviation, Deodat Indar, confirmed that Avianca Airlines will commence operations on March 2, 2026.

The service will employ an Airbus A330-243F aircraft, providing 65 tonnes of dedicated cargo capacity per flight. 

The minister said this expansion responds to the rapid growth in Guyana’s aviation sector, where international cargo volumes have nearly doubled since 2020.

Indar described the launch as “a landmark achievement” in modernising Guyana’s aviation and logistics infrastructure. 

He said the additional capacity would support businesses and private citizens alike, offering a reliable link for commercial goods, agricultural exports, and personal shipments.

“This service is a vital component of our strategy to establish Guyana as the premier ‘food basket of the Caribbean,’” Indar said. “

By providing our farmers and manufacturers with direct access to the Miami trade hub, we ensure that Guyanese products reach global consumers quickly and reliably.”

The initiative forms part of the Government of Guyana’s broader effort to attract international carriers and position CJIA as a central logistics and trade gateway for the region.
