The Guyana Football Federation (GFF) and the Anguilla Football Association have both launched investigations following an altercation that led to the abandonment of their Under-20 fixture in the CONCACAF U-20 Championship Qualifiers in Curaçao on February 28.

The violent incident occurred around the 86th minute after the referee issued a red card to an Anguilla player after he fouled a Guyanese player.

The federation said the decision was followed by hostile verbal exchanges and jostling between players from both teams.

Guyana was leading the match 5-0 when the brawl broke out.

According to the GFF, during the confrontation an Anguillian player ran into a group of players and appeared to have struck a Guyanese player, which triggered a broader altercation involving several players.

As tensions escalated, the match was abandoned and multiple players from both sides were shown red and yellow cards.

The federation confirmed that all Guyanese players and staff returned safely to their hotel and that there were no reports of serious injuries.

It noted that an official investigation is ongoing and said it remains committed to the principles of fair play, respect and discipline.

In a separate statement, the AFA said it was aware of the events that occurred during the match and stressed that it does not condone such behaviour under any circumstances.
The AFA said it will conduct a thorough investigation and, upon completion, consult the individuals involved before taking appropriate action in accordance with the regulations and disciplinary framework established by CONCACAF and its own Code of Conduct.
Both associations reaffirmed their commitment to integrity, accountability and the continued development of football, indicating that further updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
