The St Kitts and Nevis passport has become more powerful after Prime Minister Terrance Drew signed a visa-free agreement with Ghana.

Ghanaian President John Dramani Mahama announced the development on March 5 following talks with Drew, who is currently visiting the West African country on a state visit.

In November 2018, Saint Kitts and Nevis and Ghana signed a reciprocal visa waiver agreement for holders of diplomatic and official/service passports.

Mahama said the expanded visa agreement is expected to boost tourism, trade and people-to-people relations between the two countries.

The president added that both countries will continue discussions on structured labour mobility arrangements.

“Ghana is prepared where appropriate to support St Kitts and Nevis with skills professionals including nurses, teachers and other technical experts while ensuring mutually beneficial frameworks develop between our countries,” Mahama said.

Drew echoed Mahama’s comments, noting that the agreement strengthens practical connectivity between the two nations.

“By removing visa requirements, we are making it easier for our people to connect, collaborate, and explore new opportunities,” the Prime Minister stated. “This is about deepening bonds and opening doors.”

Earlier in the day, Drew signed a bilateral labour agreement with Ghana for the recruitment of Ghanaian medical professionals to serve in Saint Kitts and Nevis.

The St Kitts and Nevis Information Service said the agreement establishes an effective and efficient framework for the voluntary recruitment and temporary deployment of various categories of health professionals to support the federation’s health sector.

Drew, who also serves as the Minister of Health, emphasised the importance of the agreement to national development.

“Strengthening our healthcare system remains a priority, and this agreement provides a practical and mutually beneficial pathway to do so,” he said. “It reflects our commitment to ensuring quality healthcare for our citizens,” said Drew.
