CARICOM governments are mobilising humanitarian aid to Cuba, following a decision announced at the 50th Regular Meeting of the Conference of Heads of Government in St Kitts and Nevis last February.

The initiative, coordinated by the CARICOM Secretariat, will see essential items shipped to Cuba on behalf of Member States.

The aid package includes powdered milk and baby formula, staple foods such as rice, beans, wheat flour, and canned goods, as well as basic medical supplies.

Additional support will come in the form of solar panels, batteries, and water tanks to assist communities in need.

Mexico is supporting the effort by identifying suppliers able to deliver the goods to the port of departure and covering shipment costs from Mexico to Cuba.

The shipments are expected to reach Cuba in the coming weeks.
