Police in the northern Bahamas have taken a man into custody as investigations continue into the disappearance of a American Lynette Hooker, who was reported missing at sea.

According to police, a 59-year-old man of United States nationality was detained shortly after 7 pm on April 8 in Marsh Harbour, Abaco.

He is currently being questioned in connection with the matter.

Hooker was reported missing from an eight-foot hard-bottom dinghy while en route to Elbow Cay on April 4.

Police said investigations are ongoing and are appealing to members of the public for information that may assist with the case.
