A diplomatic delegation from Trinidad and Tobago is expected to travel to Venezuela soon for discussions on cross-border energy, including the Dragon Gas field.

Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar announced the development on April 8 during the official handover of six fire tenders at the
Penal Fire Station in south Trinidad.

“We have been working really hard with the government of the United States and other governments, and shortly a diplomatic delegation will depart Trinidad and Tobago to go to Venezuela to ensure that we get our just share of the oil and gas that we partly own through the NGC,” she said.

The planned visit forms part of ongoing efforts to secure the country’s share of cross-border energy resources and advance key projects involving Venezuela.

Pointing to the handover ceremony, the prime minister said that while the government is focused on strengthening safety and emergency response capabilities, it is also working to safeguard the country’s economic future.

“And so whilst we look to safety and security in this sense, we are looking for your safety and security in the economic space, which is very important,” she added.

The Dragon gas field, located off Venezuela’s coast, has been central to Trinidad and Tobago’s efforts to address domestic gas shortages and support its energy sector, although the project has faced delays due to regulatory and geopolitical challenges.
