Fifty-four of the more than 100 candidates contesting next month’s general election in The Bahamas have net worths exceeding $1 million.

The candidates’ financial declarations were published by the Parliamentary Registration Department in the April 20 edition of the Nassau Guardian.

Topping the list is former Los Angeles Lakers player and businessman Rick Fox, who reported a net worth of $469,876,479.25.

Fox, the opposition Free National Movement (FNM) candidate for Garden Hills, listed assets including $432 million in securities and investments, $14 million in accounts receivable and $11 million in real estate.

His annual income is $4,816,689.16, with liabilities of $124,000.83.
Second on the list is Sebastian Bastian of the ruling Progressive Liberal Party (PLP), with a net worth of $28.9 million.

Bastian, the party’s candidate for Fort Charlotte, is an entrepreneur and co-founder of Island Luck, one of the country’s largest betting and gaming providers.

His assets include $17.3 million in real estate, $4.9 million in securities and $3.9 million in personal property.

The Nassau Guardian reported that he also listed himself as a “discretionary beneficiary” in several trusts with an aggregate value of $160 million.

The funds were established before he entered politics.

Third is Deputy Prime Minister Chester Cooper, who reported a net worth of just over $28 million. According to the Nassau Guardian, his assets are largely split between investments, valued at $13.5 million, and real estate at $10.5 million.

He reported an annual income of $324,000 and liabilities of $560,000.
