A 28-year-old Anguillian man has been charged following what police say is a long-running investigation into serious and organised criminal activity.

The Royal Anguilla Police Force said Tariq Rashid Harrigan of Brimigen was arrested on April 14 and formally charged two days later.

He faces charges of conspiracy to murder, official corruption and conspiracy to defeat justice.

Harrigan appeared before the Magistrate’s Court on April 17, where prosecutors sought to have him remanded in custody. However, he was granted bail in the sum of EC$215,000 with one surety.

As part of his bail conditions, he must surrender all passports and is not allowed to apply for new travel documents while the matter is before the court.

He has also been barred from leaving Anguilla without permission and is prohibited from contacting any police or prosecution witnesses, whether directly or indirectly.

The court also ordered him to keep the peace and be of good behaviour.

Police said the matter forms part of a “protracted and complex investigation” into organised criminal activity. Detectives have already carried out searches at two properties and several vehicles linked to the case.

Authorities are urging anyone with information that could assist the investigation to come forward, noting that tips can be submitted confidentially.
