Two men were shot and killed in Anguilla on Monday in a double homicide that pushed the British overseas territory’s murder toll this year to five.
Police said officers responded to reports of gunfire between 5:30 am and 6 am in the Island Harbour area, where they found two men suffering from apparent gunshot wounds.
Both were pronounced dead at the scene.
Authorities have not released the identities of the victims, and investigations are ongoing.
The killings mark the latest deadly shooting in Anguilla and come amid concerns over violent crime on the island.
Anguilla’s first homicide of 2026 was Jamaican national Romaine Ovardo Carby, 37, who was found dead on January 7 in the Bad Cox area after what police described as a violent incident involving his vehicle, which was later set on fire.
Krishna Baijnauth, 49, was subsequently charged with Carby’s murder and arson.
Three days later, 19-year-old Clashawn Gumbs was gunned down near a Chinese restaurant in Blowing Point. Police later offered a reward of up to US$10,000 for information leading to an arrest, charge and conviction in that case.
On February 14, 26-year-old Shane Quaishan Hughes of Blowing Point was also shot dead in South Hill after police responded to reports of multiple gunshots.
According to Anguilla Focus, the territory recorded 11 murders in 2025, with no charges brought in any of those cases.
Six homicides were recorded in 2024, with charges laid in only one case, while five murders were recorded in 2023, again with charges brought in just one case.
