Prime Minister Gaston Browne has secured a record fourth term in office after the Antigua and Barbuda Labour Party (ABLP) won a landslide victory in yesterday’s general election.
Results from the Antigua and Barbuda Electoral Commission (ABEC) showed the ABLP captured 15 of the 17 seats in Parliament, mirroring the party’s dominant performance in 2018.
Opposition Leader Jamale Pringle will return to Parliament as the United Progressive Party’s (UPP) sole representative, narrowly retaining the All Saints East and St Luke constituency by 164 votes.
He will be joined on the opposition benches by Trevor Walker of the Barbuda People’s Movement, who won his seat by 225 votes.
Following the decisive victory, Browne called for unity, urging citizens to come together and focus on the country’s future.
“Let us move forward together, not be divided by yesterday but united in building tomorrow,” he said.
Addressing supporters, Browne said he was humbled, strengthened and motivated by the trust placed in him and his party to lead the country for a fourth consecutive term.
He acknowledged the expectations of the electorate following the ABLP’s re-election and pledged to “work harder” and “serve even more faithfully”.
