The Trinidad and Tobago Police Service (TTPS) says it has broken up a group believed to be behind a series of home invasions across central Trinidad.

The group, referred to by investigators as the “Tall Boots Crew,” is suspected to be connected to incidents in Cunupia, Las Lomas, Chaguanas, Freeport and Longdenville over the past several weeks.

Police said a coordinated operation on May 2 brought together multiple units, including the Home Invasion Team and Central Division officers.

Two people were arrested during the exercise, while four others were shot and killed in separate encounters with police after the men robbed a 70-year-old farmer of TT$1,120 (TT$6.78 = US$1) at his home in Cunupia.

Those killed have been identified as Mikhail Guiseppe of Cocorite, Davion Guiseppe, 30, of North Cunupia, Kevin John, and another man whose identity is still being confirmed.

Assistant Commissioner Richard Smith, who oversees the Criminal Division, warned that getting involved in this type of activity often ends badly.

“There is no reward in criminality, the life of crime inevitably leads to negative consequences, loss of freedom, loss of opportunities and in many instances, loss of life. We will not allow a small group of individuals to disrupt the peace and security of law-abiding citizens,” Smith said.

He urged citizens to assist police with their investigation.
