CHRISTIANSTED, US Virgin Islands — A 53-year-old man has died after he was allegedly stabbed by a relative in Estate Glynn on September 7.

The 911 Emergency Call Center received a report at about 3:04 pm that a male had been stabbed by a relative.

Responding officers found an unresponsive adult male at the scene. He was transported by ambulance to the Juan Luis Hospital emergency room, where he later died from multiple stab wounds.

The victim was identified by his next of kin as 53-year-old Jose Antonio Cotto.

Police identified the suspect as 45-year-old Miguel A. Cotto, who was detained and taken to the Criminal Investigation Bureau.

This was the territory’s 34th murder for 2026.

According to police, Cotto was advised of his rights, interviewed and arrested on charges of first-degree murder, first-degree assault, third-degree assault and possession of a dangerous weapon during the commission of a crime.

Cotto was booked and unable to post bail, which was set at $1 million.

He was remanded to the John A. Bell Adult Correctional Facility pending his advice of rights hearing.
