Police shot and killed a suspected bandit during a confrontation following a home invasion at a residence for the aged in east Trinidad.

The Trinidad and Tobago Police Service (TTPS) said in a media release that the incident began around 12:59 pm on 16 March 2026 when four male suspects, armed with weapons, entered the property along Valsayn Avenue, Valsayn North, by scaling a perimeter wall.

One occupant was confronted and threatened, while other residents raised an alarm, prompting the suspects to flee.

Officers from the North Central Division Task Force responded and conducted searches in the surrounding area, leading to the arrest of two suspects — a 22-year-old man from Port of Spain and a 14-year-old boy from St Joseph.

Police later went to Farm Road Extension in Curepe based on information received, where they encountered a third suspect who was armed.

During the confrontation, the suspect was fatally shot.

He has not yet been identified.

A fourth suspect remains at large, and efforts are under way to locate and apprehend him.

No injuries were reported among the occupants of the home.

Investigations are continuing under the supervision of officers attached to the St Joseph Criminal Investigations Department.
