The Cayman Islands Government says there is no immediate threat to the country following reports that a British Airways flight from London was being held in The Bahamas over a suspected public health issue onboard.

In a statement, the government said all passengers on the flight are currently being screened by Bahamian authorities.

Among those onboard are several Cayman Islands residents, including Minister for Education and Training and Minister for Finance and Economic Development Rolston Anglin.

Officials said local health and border authorities are in direct contact with their counterparts in The Bahamas and are closely following developments.

The government said it is prepared to respond quickly if needed, but stressed that there is currently no immediate risk to the Cayman Islands.

Authorities also urged the public to remain calm and avoid speculation while awaiting official updates.

Further information is expected once screening results are completed and authorities determine the next course of action.
