Grenada police say a complaint received following allegations that hotel workers were being sexually abused by visitors did not amount to a sexual assault offence.

The update was provided by the Royal Grenada Police Force (RGPF) on May 30, two days after authorities appealed for information regarding the allegations.

According to police, one formal complaint has since been made. 

However, after conducting preliminary inquiries, investigators determined that the matter did not constitute sexual assault.

Instead, police intervention was requested to issue a warning to the individual involved.

Police stressed that they remain committed to investigating reports of sexual abuse, exploitation and other criminal activity and encouraged anyone with information to come forward.

The force is also urging anyone who believes they may have been the victim of a crime to contact investigators.

“The cooperation of the public is essential in ensuring that allegations of this nature are properly investigated and addressed,” the RGPF said.

The allegation was first raised in during a sitting of the House of Representatives on May 27. 

In a statement following the sitting, police said they had not received a formal complaint regarding these allegations and called on victims to come forwards. 

“We take all reports of sexual abuse and exploitation seriously and are committed to conducting a thorough investigation into any matter brought to our attention,” police said.
