The African Export-Import Bank (Afreximbank) is looking to strengthen economic ties between Jamaica, the wider Caribbean and Africa as it expands its presence in the region.
The bank hosted its first roadshow in Kingston, Jamaica on June 2, aimed at introducing Jamaican businesses, financial institutions and government stakeholders to its financing and investment opportunities.
Held under the theme “Empowering Jamaica’s Growth: Catalysing Trade, Investment and Industrialisation through Tailored Afreximbank Solutions,” the event highlighted Jamaica’s growing importance in regional trade and investment.
The roadshow followed Jamaica’s signing of an Afreximbank Partnership Agreement in July 2025 and the bank’s approval of a US$5 billion financing facility for the Caribbean, including Jamaica.
The event brought together representatives from the public and private sectors to discuss opportunities for trade expansion, investment and industrial development.
Jamaica’s Minister of Finance and the Public Service, Fayval Williams, encouraged local institutions to strengthen their engagement with Afreximbank, noting the potential for greater two-way trade and investment between Jamaica and Africa.
“We understand that, for more than three decades, Afreximbank has been delivering financing solutions that support trade and drive economic growth across Africa,” Williams said.
She added that the bank’s growing presence in the Caribbean could help create new opportunities for businesses in both regions.
Afreximbank’s Group Managing Director, Client Relations and Regional Office Operations, Eric Monchu Intong, said the bank believes industrial development is key to building stronger economies and expanding trade.
He pointed to Jamaica’s potential to increase value-added exports, reduce dependence on imports and create more jobs through investments in manufacturing, industrial parks and special economic zones.
Intong said Afreximbank’s experience supporting similar initiatives across Africa could provide lessons and opportunities for Jamaica and the wider Caribbean.
The bank has supported industrial development projects across 18 African countries, including through initiatives focused on industrial parks and special economic zones.
Afreximbank said it remains committed to expanding trade links between Africa and the Caribbean by improving access to financing, investment capital and advisory support.
