The Royal Grenada Police Force (RGPF) has issued a warning over what it says is a rise in unlawful activities associated with masquerading events across the country.

In a statement on Monday, the police said they were concerned about recent incidents involving traffic obstruction, damage to public and private property, excessive noise, intimidation of residents and businesses, and other forms of public nuisance.

According to the RGPF, these activities are creating disruptions in communities and undermining the cultural significance of masquerading traditions.

While reaffirming its support for the preservation of Grenada’s cultural heritage, the police stressed that masquerading activities must be carried out within the law and with respect for the rights and safety of others.

The force warned that behaviour which damages property, creates safety risks or disturbs communities will not be tolerated.

Police are also urging members of the public to report unlawful conduct and comply with regulations governing public gatherings and cultural events.

The RGPF called on community leaders, cultural organisations and other stakeholders to encourage responsible participation and help maintain the positive values traditionally associated with masquerading.

The force said it will continue to monitor masquerading activities and take enforcement action where necessary.

Police added that they remain committed to maintaining public safety, protecting property and preserving public order throughout Grenada.
