Bonaire recorded a modest increase in stayover visitors in May 2026, with more than 15,000 tourists arriving on the Dutch Caribbean island during the month.
Preliminary data from Tourism Corporation Bonaire (TCB) showed that the island welcomed 15,201 stayover visitors in May, a 1.6% increase compared with the 14,962 visitors recorded during the same period in 2025.
Visitors from the Netherlands remained the largest tourism market, accounting for 43.3% of arrivals, or 6,584 visitors.
The United States was the second-largest source market, with 3,966 visitors representing 26.1% of total arrivals.
Other major markets included Curaçao, which contributed 2,190 visitors (14.4%), followed by Germany with 307 visitors, Aruba with 280, Belgium with 201 and Brazil with 183.
Among US visitors, the main reasons for travel were vacation (48%) and diving (42%), reflecting Bonaire’s reputation as a major dive destination. Most US travellers stayed in hotels (54%), followed by villas, apartments and private accommodations.
The largest number of US visitors came from Florida, Texas, California, New York and North Carolina. Travellers aged 55-64 represented the largest age group, accounting for 24.1% of US visitors, followed by those aged 65 and over at 19.6%.
Dutch visitors mainly travelled for vacations, which accounted for 70.3% of trips, followed by visiting friends and family (10.5%) and business travel (6.5%).
More than half of Dutch visitors stayed in hotels (51.4%), while others chose apartments, villas, private properties or stayed with relatives.
The largest Dutch visitor groups came from South Holland, North Holland, North Brabant, Gelderland and Utrecht, with travellers aged 55-64 and 25-34 making up the largest segments.
