Bonaire recorded a slight decline in stayover arrivals in April 2026, with preliminary figures showing 18,778 visitors travelled to the island during the month.
According to the Tourism Corporation Bonaire, the figure represented a 0.4 per cent decrease compared to April 2025, when the island welcomed 18,858 stayover visitors.
Visitors from the Netherlands continued to make up the island’s largest tourism market, accounting for 8,176 arrivals or 43.5 per cent of the total.
The United States remained the second-largest source market with 4,140 visitors, representing 22 per cent of all arrivals.
Regional travel also contributed significantly to Bonaire’s tourism numbers. Curaçao accounted for 3,381 visitors or 18 per cent of arrivals, while Aruba contributed 507 visitors.
Other source markets included Belgium with 527 visitors, Canada with 388, Germany with 274, Switzerland with 219, Colombia with 136, Brazil with 134 and the United Kingdom with 128 visitors.
The tourism authority said most American visitors travelled to Bonaire with a partner, while others travelled alone. Vacation travel accounted for 51.5 per cent of US arrivals, followed by diving at 37.1 per cent.
Most US visitors stayed in hotels, while others chose villas, apartments, private properties or relatives’ homes. The largest number of American visitors came from California, Florida, New York, North Carolina and New Jersey. Travellers aged 55-64 formed the biggest age group among US visitors.
Dutch travellers were mainly solo visitors or travelling with partners. Most visited Bonaire for holidays, while others travelled to see friends and family or for business purposes.
Hotels remained the preferred accommodation option among Dutch visitors, followed by apartments and staying with relatives. Most travellers from the Netherlands came from South Holland, North Holland, North Brabant, Gelderland and Utrecht.
