A 12-year-old American boy was injured in a shark attack in The Bahamas on June 23, while visiting the Exuma Cays.

Police said the boy was attacked in Staniel Cay, Exuma, and was being transported by boat to New Providence shortly before 3:30 pm for medical attention.

According to a preliminary report, the boy was on a tour of the area with his family when he was swimming with his brother and was attacked by the shark.

His mother later reported the incident to police, saying the child received medical treatment for his injuries and was last listed in stable condition.

Police have not released further details about the attack.
